The Women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament is off to an exciting start. Ruby Soho and Toni Storm both picked up wins against Riho and Jamie Hayter, respectively, last week. This week on Rampage, Red Velvet will be facing Kris Statlander, Hikaru Shida’s replacement in the tournament. Meanwhile, on Dynamite this week, Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., will be facing the “Joker”- an opponent that will not be revealed until the actual match.
Although Britt claims it does not matter who she will be facing and is confident she will be advancing in the tournament, I thought it would be fun to brainstorm a few potential women that may end up as the Joker.
Athena
Formerly Ember Moon in NXT and WWE, Athena has been heavily rumored to be the joker. She has been wrestling for different independent promotions recently, so it is very possible that Athena could make her AEW debut against Britt Baker. I think Athena would be a great fit for AEW and, personally, would love to see her in a match against TBS Champion, Jade Cargill.
Nixon Newell
Another former NXT and WWE superstar as Tegan Nox, Nixon Newell is another name that was originally rumored to face the Bunny in the tournament qualifying match that Toni Storm ultimately debuted in. Nixon hasn’t wrestled since NXT but has been working through visa issues. It is not known where her visa issues are at right now, but I’m sure many would love to see Nixon in an AEW ring.
Deonna Purrazzo
Although currently working for Impact, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Deonna as the joker. She made her AEW debut on Dynamite two weeks ago when she defended her ROH Women’s Championship against the Interim ROH Women’s Champion, Mercedes Martinez. Martinez won the ROH Women’s Championship, but Deonna’s time with AEW isn’t over. AEW loves to open the forbidden door and Deonna would be a great opponent for her best friend, Britt Baker.
Chelsea Green
Another friend of Britt Baker, Chelsea Green, has been keeping herself busy with Impact, GCW, and many independent promotions, sometimes alongside her husband, Matt Cardona. Chelsea has not appeared in AEW yet, it is always possible, and her debut would definitely surprise fans. Although I don’t feel as passionately about her debuting as some of the other ladies I’ve listed, it would surprise fans.
Maki Itoh
Maki Itoh is a fan favorite and is no stranger to AEW. In fact, she joined with Britt Baker to face Thunder Rosa and Riho at Revolution in 2021. Itoh has been teasing followers on Twitter by saying she would be in America for a match shortly. Could it be against Britt this Wednesday night?
A Current Member of the AEW Roster
Britt may face a current AEW women’s roster member on Dynamite. Penelope Ford playing the Joker and winning the tournament is my personal preference. Anna Jay is another person who was not included in the tournament and did not even have a qualifying match. I think she deserves at least a chance in the tournament. Another name that has been absent in the entire women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament is Nyla Rose. Nyla Rose would challenge Britt Baker, making fans question whether the Doctor can win.
