Queen of the Ring is now in theatres everywhere, and the story of Mildred Burke is prominent. Burke is one of the first Women's wrestlers and the first to accumulate $1 Million. Her story is a tale of passion and grit that is suitable for all audiences. Burke, better know as the Kansas Cyclone, defied all odds to not only capture her dream but make that dream a reality for women everywhere. Women's wrestling is what it is today for her sacrifices, and the fact QOTR is premiering during Women's History Month is beautiful to highlight how far we've come.

Burke is portrayed by Emily Bett Rickards, and Rickards does a stellar job at making the audience feel everything Burke had to go through. Whether you're a fan of pro wrestling or not, this film details the struggles women had during that time and the oppression they faced in the United States. In every sense Queen of the Ring is a story about women's freedom. Burke overcame the odds of wrestling being illegal for women, and broke those barriers to become a household name, and get those bans lifted region by region. Doing this all while being a single mother surrounded by sexism in the industry and toxicity from her promoter and husband, Billy Wolf.
The story of Burke takes you on a journey through every emotion, with a sense of validation seeing her build herself so organically. From working carnivals, to becoming NWA Women's champion, to being on the marquee at Madison Square Garden, Queen of the Ring encapsulates Burke's never quit attitude on her journey to greatness. With possibly the most beautiful part of that journey is Burke advocating for women to join her during her rise in the sport. Burke took care of women in and outside of the ring which speaks volumes to her character as a trailblazer for women's wrestling.

Queen of the Ring is excellent from start to finish and while Burke's story will pull you in emotionally, the graps and physicality in the squared circle will keep you on the edge of your seat. Also, the cast is star-studded, featuring many of your current favorite women's wrestlers. Have you seen QOTR yet? If not, what are you waiting for?
