Penelope Ford Returns to AEW

Former Staff

This past Monday on AEW Dark: Elevation, Penelope Ford returned to AEW with a victory over Heather Reckless. The Super Bad Girl made her surprising return to a thunderous ovation from the Minneapolis crowd. Better yet, she made sure to acknowledge her husband, Kip Sabian, who was watching from ringside. Kip Sabian has been ringside at AEW and other organizations wearing an “Underrated” and “Over it” box for months.

Penelope hasn’t wrestled since January, when she defeated Angelica Risk on AEW Dark and teamed with Nyla Rose and the Bunny to defeat Kris Statlander, Leyla Hirsch, and Red Velvet on Rampage. On Rampage’s New Year’s Smash episode on December 31, 2021, she and the Bunny lost a street battle against Anna Jay and Tay Conti.

Penelope Ford has been a staple of the AEW’s women’s division since signing with the company in 2019. Her absence is significant, and admirers have tweeted Tony Khan about it. One fan in particular tweeted Tony asking if he had given up on Penelope. Tony’s response was, “not at all, total opposite in fact; she’s a great wrestler and I can’t wait until she’s medically cleared to come back. She’s been in some classic AEW matches, and hopefully she’ll be in many more!”

With Tony Khan in her corner, time will only tell what the future holds for Penelope in AEW. Based on the Elevation tease with Kip Sabian, the two should reunite shortly. Penelope could be the shake-up that the AEW women’s roster needs with her incredible athleticism, wrestling style, and overall charisma. It will be fascinating to see if she appears in Dynamite, Rampage, or Dark and where the corporation takes her character. With injuries to Leyla Hirsch, Kris Statlander, Red Velvet, and Jamie Hayter, Super Bad Girl may have championship opportunities.
