As first announced by All Elite Wrestling on Twitter, Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Mercedes Martinez will defend her title against “The Fallen Goddess” Athena at ROH Final Battle this coming Saturday, December 10th. This marks Martinez’s first defense of the championship since temporarily stepping away from in-ring action for four months due to injury.
The “Latina Sensation” returned on the November 18 episode of AEW Rampage after Athena delivered a post-match assault on a defeated Madison Rayne. Athena then issued a challenge to Mercedes the following week in hopes of capturing the prestigious title stating that she has been waiting for this opportunity to come.
Given the intensity of this rivalry and the rich history between Athena and Mercedes even prior to their time in AEW, these women are more than ready to pull out all the stops to establish themselves as one of the top female competitors in this industry.
