Carmella Marks Six Years On WWE’s Main Roster

Former Staff

This month, Carmella celebrates six years on the main roster. Similar to Alexa Bliss, Carmella was selected at the 2016 WWE Draft to go from NXT to the main roster. She would be the last individual selected during the draft announcements.

Carmella made her debut on the main roster on the same day as Bliss, July 26, 2016. On SmackDown, Carmella, Bliss, Naomi, and Eva Marie challenged Becky Lynch for the women’s title.

A week later, Carmella had her first match on SmackDown. It was against Natalya, and she won by moonwalking. Carmella signed with WWE in 2013 and debuted in September 2014, like many other women, including Bayley. She is nearing a decade with the firm, and it has been eight years since her first television appearance. During Season 5 of Tough Enough, she applied to WWE but withdrew after becoming a Laker Girl.

On the main roster, Carmella has had many gimmick modifications. From her FABULOUS gimmick through her most recent Untouchable Era, during which she became “The Most Beautiful Woman in the Entire WWE,” She also used a face mask throughout her bouts for many months to protect her face. She just recently began competing without it again.

Money in the Bank matches for women began in 2017, and Mella will always be remembered as the first woman to win the briefcase (albeit with controversy that it had to be done twice). She is also the first woman to hold the briefcase for more than 24 hours, as she defeated Charlotte Flair 287 days later to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship. During her stint as champion, Carmella’s mic talents excelled.

She won the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal and the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Zelina Vega. Mella, coupled with R-Truth, was a pioneer for the 24/7 Championship, becoming a four-time champion.

Carmella has had notable feuds with Charlotte Flair, Asuka, Nikki Bella, Bayley, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Bianca Belair during the course of her career.
