AEW REVOLUTION HITS AND MISSES

AEW kicked off their 2025 Pay-Per-View season with a bang this past weekend in the city of angels at the Crypto.com Arena. AEW Revolution left people off their seats and the question heard all around the world is what’s next as they turn their attention to AEW Dynasty next month. Before we focus on Dynasty, let’s look at hits, misses, what they can improve, and Bold Prediction Matches for AEW Dynasty.

HITS

The Hollywood Ending with AEW's Leading Ladies
The Hollywood Ending with AEW's Leading Ladies

Toni Storm vs Mariah May (The Hollywood Ending) – No words can describe that the rivalry between two of the top ladies of AEW deserves to be in the Top 5 rivalries since the launch of AEW six years ago. With the proper build up to tie in with last week’s release of Queen of The Ring has been absolute cinema and both ladies deserves their flowers to a proper ending.

Swerve Strickland vs Ricochet – This is one of the matches that the crowd was getting behind plus got to see a cameo appearance by Saturday Night Live star Lesile Jones and rooting for Swerve Strickland. Prince Nana was sneaky and devious that had the whole crowd thinking he was done with Swerve but came back trying to get back his robe with Ricochet not looking. Your new number one contender Swerve Strickland will challenge either Jon Moxley or Cope after next week’s street fight at AEW Dynasty next month in Philadelphia.

Kyle Fletcher vs Will Osprey – Hands down, sleeper match of the night. These two have developed a personal storyline that consists of betrayal, heartbreak, and violence that should continue throughout the entire year of 2025. Both Kyle Fletcher and Will Osprey delivered an incredible performance plus I do see singles gold in the future for Kyle Fletcher. Osprey continues to prove that he wants to be the top guy in AEW and announced that he will be a participant in this year’s Owen Hart Cup Men’s Tournament.

MJF vs Hangman Adam Page – A match between two of AEW’s homegrown talent was a perfect way to kick off AEW Revolution. We have seen them cross path previously but this is the first time they had a one on one match with each other. Both men didn’t disappoint and this will not be the last time we see these two in action.

The Hurt Syndicate vs The Outrunners – Many people thought this was going to be a squash match but never underestimate a match on paper cause it might be one of the best matches you’ve seen in present time. Even though the Outrunners didn’t walk away with the win, it showed they can be serious tag team contenders in the long run and could possibly see a long term storytelling between these two teams.

Celebrities came out in full force – AEW Revolution brought out the stars in Los Angeles. Outside of seeing Queen of the Ring actresses Kelli Berglund and Damaris Lewis along with director Ash Avildsen, we got to see comedians Leslie Jones, Adam DeVine, Tony Cavalero, Brad Williams, and Ron Funches along with actor Ken Jeong and former LA Lakers player Michael Cooper. Added bonus we had Good Morning Football analyst and host of American Ninja Warrior Akbar Gbajabiamila in the building.

MISSES

Jon Moxley vs Cope – Nothing against Moxely and Cope but this is a match that not many people really cared about plus the storyline with the Death Riders is starting to drag a little bit. With Swerve Strickland being the number one contender, hopefully the storyline with the Death Riders starts to pick up steam and currently awaiting the anticipated return of Darby Allin.

Okada vs Brody King should’ve been saved for AEW Dynasty – I understand this is AEW’s first pay-per-view of 2025 but this could’ve been saved for AEW Dynasty. There wasn’t much of a build up to happen at Revolution that could have been saved for the next pay-per-view. Another note I found out is since Okada has been champion, I don’t think he’s had a legit long term storyline with anyone on the roster. Brody King deserves another opportunity at the belt and is destined for singles gold.

Improving build-up for Mercedes vs Momo – Overall, I thought the match between Mercedes and Momo was solid but there wasn’t much build up ahead of their match. This is one of the missed opportunities between the partnership of AEW X New Japan X Stardom of not properly introducing to wrestlers who the American Audience is not familiar with while letting their AEW stars invade to either New Japan or Stardom grounds to let viewers get engaged in the storyline.

WHAT THEY COULD’VE DONE AT REVOLUTION

AEW Women’s Championship match should have main evented – I have heard many times from Tony Khan, the fans supporting AEW, and social media channels that AEW has the best women’s roster. On paper it is but the execution has been lacking considering it has been six years and we still don’t have a women’s match main eventing an AEW Pay-Per-View. It’s one thing to say something but need to really stay true to your word. I think this is more than just Tony Khan and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s someone within the Executive Office that does not appreciate women’s wrestling at all. AEW had a missed opportunity with all the press centering on Queen of the Ring and March being Women’s History Month but failed miserably. I hope they take these lessons and really start appreciating their entire women’s division with proper build ups and gaining more air time on Dynamite.

Reduced the match card to at least 6 or 7 – AEW does a good job with their Pay-Per-Views but felt there was a few matches that could’ve been placed for a better flow or saved for AEW Dynasty. This is one of the bright spots for AEW but just need to consider just reducing to at least to 6-7 matches while delivering compelling storylines.

BOLD PREDICTION MATCHES FOR AEW DYNASTY

AEW Dynasty will be live on Sunday April 6 at Philadelphia, PA
AEW Dynasty will be live on Sunday April 6 at Philadelphia, PA

AEW Dynasty will be heading to Philadelphia next month and already know of two tentative matches. I figured I share a few bold predictions of matches that should take place in the city of brotherly love.

Max Caster vs Anthony Bowens – I am pretty much the only person that is invested in this storyline. We already know The Acclaimed have called it quits (for now!) and getting ready to see the guys in their respective singles run. Caster has his open challenge that he’s been doing the last few weeks and Bowens is going to have to respond sooner than later. It may not be the most appealing match to others but I do think these two will deliver a heartfelt and compelling match that needs to have a stipulation.

Willow Nightingale vs Marina Shafir – This is a women’s match that needs to happen at Dynasty. We have seen these two go back and forth since Full Gear last November plus it will be refreshing to see someone go toe to toe with Shafir.

What are your overall thoughts about AEW Revolution and matches you think will happen at AEW Dynasty?
