Today, Tony Khan discusses the upcoming AEW pay-per-view, Double or Nothing. Taking place on Sunday, Double or Nothing gives us an important rematch between current TBS Champion Jade Cargill and Taya Valkyrie. Furthermore, Khan talks ROH and Willow Nightingale becoming the first NJPW Strong Women’s Champion.
Our very own Nickie Booshie sat in on this call and asked about the importance of Taya Valkyrie to AEW.
“Taya Valkyrie is very experienced, great wrestler. She’s been tremendous in the locker room and backstage and is a great wrestler in the ring for us.” Khan continues, calling Taya Jade’s “toughest challenge to Jade Cargill and the TBS Championship.”
Khan goes on to state that the “gloves are off” and “restrictions are off” this time for Valkyrie and Cargill.
“I’m excited for Taya to step up and certainly this will be, for Jade, a milestone match potentially but also I think one of the toughest opponents Jade has ever faced.”
Tony Khan gives an update on Jamie Hayter
Chris Mueller from Bleacher Report asked about the status of Jamie Hayter.
“Well Jamie Hayter is injured and we’ve been addressing that on tv for several weeks.” He talks about Toni Storm injuring the current AEW Women’s World Champion during their tag match.
“Since then, Jamie has not been competing and we’ve referenced it several times.” He says that Jamie was unfortunately not able to compete last week which is the opposite of what Khan wanted. “She’s a great wrestler and she is our world champion, and it was something I wanted to have.”
In addition, he ensures that Jamie Hayter is ready to compete. He finishes by commending Hayter for being a fighting champion and is ready to see her match this Sunday at Double or Nothing.
