Mercedes Moné, the CEO of New Japan Pro Wrestling and STARDOM, formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE lore, has set the wrestling community on fire since her debut at Night 1 of Wrestle Kingdom 17. Journalists, athletes, and fans eagerly anticipate The Conversation’s main event match against former WWE rival and current IWGP Women’s World Champion KAIRI at the sold-out Battle in The Valley on February 18. The supernova of women’s wrestling has lived up to her moniker. Mercedes Moné has been the subject of much speculation since she and Trinity Fatu, better known as Naomi, left WWE last summer due to scheduling issues as the Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Since then, fans and pundits have tried to forecast where the women could sign if they ever returned to wrestling. AEW has signed Tay Melo, Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena, and Toni Storm. Mercedes was expected to join. Since February 2021, fans expected AEW to sign the hottest women’s free agent. Dynamite’s January 11 episode featured Saraya’s tag team match against Dr. Britt Baker, DMD, and AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter. This sparked widespread speculation.

Fans still hoped for Moné after Saraya chose Toni Storm as her partner and Dr. Baker called herself “the Boss” in a promo. Wednesday’s tag match was exciting, but Toni Storm annoyed fans by acting like they wanted her to be someone else. After tweets showed the arena turning off the lights after the match, fans wondered if they would get their wish. Sadly, a single monitor flashed a sign advertising AEW’s Rampage show, and the fans booed heavily. The reports of Mercedes signing with AEW and being present at the show were false. But if the last few days have taught us anything, it is to expect the unexpected.
