NXT 2.0 | NXT UK REVIEW – WEEK OF AUG 21

NXT 2.0 – Aug 23

Josh Briggs and Brooks stop Fallon from fighting Lash Legend backstage. Lash Legends strikes Fallon from behind, Fallon retaliates, and Josh Briggs separates her, only to be assaulted by Pretty Deadly, leading Gallus to win by count out.

Astrid’s Point

I think it’s important to involve women in different aspects of storytelling, I like seeing Lash and Fallon involved in this somehow, it also makes the women feel important as they’re using in a different way, and they get also highlighted as it involved the tag team title match that will come up soon too.

Alba Fyre Video Package

Before Indi vs. Blair begins, we get a video package from Alba Fyre. “Lash Legend learned that you do not disrespect my heritage or my ancestors. No matter the weather, terrain or situation. Those fire keepers kept those embers burning. Just like I wouldn’t let anyone extinguish my flame. Lash won’t be the only woman to test me. Soon all of them will know what she already knows. I’m a warrior and I will do whatever it takes to win. And to honor the women that surrounded that flame from the hounds and locks of Scotland all the way to NXT. Keep your eyes pinned on the horizon because where there is smoke, there’s fire.”

Astrid’s Point

I loved everything she said in this package, makes me wish they would have her as champion soon, I love her character and her look, and I would like to see her facing the women in the division after her rivalry ending with Legend.

Blair Davenport Video Package

Before Blair vs. Indi begins, we also get a video package introducing Blair to the NXT audience for those that don’t watch NXT UK. It showed details about her character and how vicious she can be in the ring, I loved it and I’m excited for her addition to the women’s division.

Indi Hartwell vs. Blair Davenport

Blair pushes Indi, who returns the favor, until the women separate. Blair is taken down by Hartwell’s pin attempt and headlock. Davenport focuses on Indi’s side and pushes her to the ropes. Indi slams Blair. Hartwell locks another headlock, pinning Blair.

Blair can reverse it, forcing Indi into a corner where she may lift her feet and land on the apron. Indi avoids Blair’s shot and fires at him. Blair drop-kicks Indi as she enters the ring, sending her outside. Davenport follows Indi outside and pushes her towards the post, but Indi avoids it, sees Blair approaching, and elbows her.

WWE Photo

Indi brings Blair inside, Blair rushes to catch Indi with a neck breaker as she hangs from the ropes. The referee checks on Indi, keeping Davenport at a distance. Blair uses the ropes as leverage as she begins to stomp her several times. Davenport goes for a neck breaker and pin attempt. She holds Indi in a submission in the middle of the ring then climbs on Indi’s back, wrapping her legs around Indi until Indi falls back causing Davenport to break the submission.

WWE Photo

Indi fights back when Blair grabs her hair, then shoulder tackles her to the ground. Hartwell clotheslines Davenport, then Blair attacks Indi, who dodges. Hartwell tries to pin, and spine bust. Indi takes Davenport to the outside, where she’s hanging from the middle ropes. Indi kicks her, sending Davenport back into the ring. Davenport tries to pin Indi after Indi climbs the top turnbuckle.

WWE Photo

Davenport is setting up her next move, Indi reverses it to an inside cradle. She gets up, sidekicks Indi then goes for her finisher and victory.

WWE Photo

Indi is kicked out of the ring by a face kick from Blair. “NXT UK’s most frightening mistress arrived, and I wasted one of its best.” Blair says she was the top contender for the NXT UK Women’s championship, so the NXT Women’s Championship will do, prompting Mandy Rose to reply.

WWE Photo

“Blair Davenport, your reputation precedes you, honey.” Mandy introduces herself to Blair, telling her that she’s standing in Mandy’s ring, entering her world in NXT and in her world they all follow her lead. Mandy mentions how dominant she’s been as champion and put respect on her name. Rose tells her that Blair can’t come in to call shots like that, she’s interrupted by NXT UK Women’s Champion Meiko Satomura.

WWE Photo

Meiko arrives, “Mandy you are wrong, you are not the most dominant women’s champion, that will be me!” Rose says Meiko is a legend, but she has thought of a way to put respect on her name than by beating a legend as Meiko. Satomura suggests that at Worlds Collide, they can do a champion vs. champion match until Blair interrupts.

WWE Photo

Blair says she can’t be forgotten about as she is the number one contender; Meiko says it’ll be a championship match instead.

Astrid’s Point

It’ll be interesting to see which direction they decide to go for the winner, either way it’s an exciting time to be watching NXT especially now with the inclusion of some of the roster from NXT UK. I’m really looking forward to this match.

Tiffany Stratton Interview

“After I beat Wendy Choo tonight, whoever walks out as women’s champion is going to have to deal with me.” McKenzie tells Tiffany she’s overlooking Wendy Choo, Tiffany tells her that after she beats Wendy, she won’t be showing her face in NXT which is a win for everyone and then the women’s division and the Unified NXT Women’s Championship will be hers too.

Astrid’s Point

I really liked Tiffany’s interview as hopefully after this rivalry with Wendy is over, she gets something new perhaps a build up towards that women’s championship match. She has grown a lot and the experience could benefit her in the long run.

Katana Chance, Wes Lee and Kayden Carter Backstage segment

Kayden assures Katana she can go upside down like JD, but she disagrees. Wes finds him creepy. Wes tells him to look out for the females as they will be challenged by everyone. Kayden declares they’re the only legitimate tag team champions in WWE, and Katana agrees. Kayden explains why they weren’t invited. Katana says they’ll fight anyone, anyplace, just like when Wes was champion. Kayden says Worlds Collide is coming and where to locate them.

Astrid’s Point

I’m enjoying the backstage segments with Katana and Kayden, but I would love to see someone set up to challenge them especially since Toxic Attraction is out for the moment, and I don’t want Kayden and Katana to be forgotten about as champions.

Indi Hartwell Promo

Indi is sitting on the apron, “This is what rock bottom feels like, huh?” Indi says she’s the problem, the chants disagree with her. She reflects that 4 months ago, she wanted to stand on her own two feet, reignite her career and here she is in the same position she was after Stand & Deliver. The fans begin to cheer, Indi turns around to find Dexter on the opposite side of the ring, they both crawl until they meet in the middle of the ring.

She hugs him, the fans cheer and she kiss him. They hug again, fans are happy to see Index reunite. He leaves the ring, holding the ropes for her to exit, carrying her on to make their exit.

Dexter brings Indi to the entrance, hands her a note, she kisses him. He opens the front doors to see the cop lights as he’s getting arrested as he was after RAW. She reads the note he left her.

WWE Photo

Astrid’s Point

I have been such a huge Index fan; I loved seeing them reunite and having the continuity of Dexter arriving with the cops and getting arrested since that’s how RAW ended. I hope this is a way to tell us The Way will be reunited in the main roster with Gargano’s arrival, Dexter’s return and Indi not having much to do in NXT at the moment, I’m excited for all of them.

Cora Jade Interview

We watch a recap of Roxanne vs. Cora from NXT Heatwave last week; McKenzie asks about Cora’s victory coming with controversy. “Everyone loves Roxanne, if she’s so amazing, what does that make the woman who beat her at Heatwave? If the roles were reversed and Roxanne did this, everyone would have said Cora Jade deserved it, we always knew Roxanne was better but because I did it, it’s the worst thing ever.”

Astrid’s Point

It’s nice to see Cora coming to her own with her character, growing as a heel and learning how to become a heel here, showing attitude and reliving her promos.

Tiffany Stratton vs. Wendy Choo (Lights Out Match)

Lights dimmed, ladies going back and forth, Tiffany chops Wendy, Choo returns the favor. Choo slingshots Tiffany to the ropes but she reversed it, Choo bounces off the ropes and returns to drop kick Tiffany. Stratton rolled out of the ring, she’s grabbing a tennis racket just as Wendy is going to meet her outside, Wendy is able to avoid it and kick Tiffany in the midsection, she takes the racket to hit Tiffany there again.

WWE Photo

Wendy brings a trash can, dumping the trash on Tiffany then placing the trash can on Tiffany. Choo picks up the racket to hit Tiffany with hit while she’s inside the trash can. Choo brings the trash can inside the ring while Tiffany recovers. Wendy takes Tiffany inside the ring, pulling Tiffany to a corner, to tackle her a few times. Choo runs to the opposite side, running to Tiffany to kick her in the face.

WWE Photo

Stratton is outside the ring, looking under for a weapon, she finds a toolbox to hit Choo with. She takes one of the tools that was in it to hit Choo, but she ducked to avoid it and Tiffany ended up hitting the post instead. Choo bounces Tiffany’s head on the canvas, grabbing the trash can, placing it between the top and middle ropes. Choo then pulls Tiffany towards the trash can, but Tiffany is able to stop herself before hitting it. Tiffany then elbows Choo in the face, Tiffany then pulls Choo to attempt to have Wendy hit the trash can but just like Tiffany, she stops herself before she hits it. Choo looks back to kick Tiffany’s midsection then kicks her face.

WWE Photo

Choo garb Choo pulls Tiffany to the ropes, Tiffany bounces, and Wendy catapults her in the air. Wendy tries a cartwheel to elbow Tiffany, but she dodges, and Wendy hits the garbage can. Tiffany pushes Wendy against the trashcan. Stratton follows Choo outside, tosses Wendy down the steel steps, and checks her nails.

Tiffany shoots while Choo stands on the apron, Wendy loses her equilibrium but hangs on. Wendy’s promo bed is in front of the ring. Wendy assaults Tiffany so she can go back into the ring. Tiffany power-slams and pins Choo.

Stratton had a pink steel chair on Wendy and attempted a moonsault, but Wendy moved. Choo slammed Tiffany, landing on the pink steel chair. Choo hit Tiffany with a crowbar. Tiffany crawls to her purse and sprays Wendy’s face with hairspray. Stratton hits Wendy in the midriff with a trash can and tries to pin her.

WWE Photo

Wendy sweeps off Stratton as she climbs the bottom rope. Choo goes to bed and hits Tiffany with a pillow from the ring. She rips the cushion to discover Legos. She dropped Legos in the ring, and Tiffany held it for Wendy to invert it. Tiffany is holding Wendy by the ropes, and Choo elbows her to dodge whatever Tiffany is planning. Stratton catches Wendy and drops her on the Legos. Tiffany retried until Wendy landed on the Legos.

WWE Photo

Tiffany runs to the ropes while trying to pin Wendy with double knees. As both women recover, the crowd screams “This is Awesome” and Tiffany kicks Wendy outside with a bag. Tiffany wants to fling powder at Wendy, but Wendy kicks her, and the powder lands in Tiffany’s face. Wendy drops Tiffany on the bed, which breaks. Wendy climbs the ropes and finishes Tiffany to win.

Astrid’s Point

I wasn’t sure what to expect when this match was announced but the ladies delivered it. I was shocked to see this be the main event but very glad it was, the ladies were highlighted in a different way, and it truly showed how they could be aggressive towards each other especially with that built up anger they have towards each other. Also, being how this match was, it marks the end int he chapter between Wendy Choo and Tiffany Stratton, I’m looking forward to what both ladies do next and how they grow from that experience.

We see Blair Davenport, Meiko Satomura, and Mandy Rose backstage after the bout. Blair signs Mandy and Meiko’s contract, making their match official. The champion doesn’t have to be pinned to lose the three-way match.

Astrid’s Point

I love seeing the match become officially on the same night it was proposed, really looking forward to it especially how each lady has a different wrestling style.

NXT UK – Aug 25

This week’s NXT UK did not have a women’s match, but Blair announced the Four-way Elimination battle for the number one contender place. We start the announcement with a recap of how she shows concluded three weeks ago. Eliza Alexander, Isla Dawn, Amale, and Blair Davenport will compete for the NXT UK Women’s Championship.

Astrid’s Point

I loved seeing the announcement of this match, however just like Tyler Bate being champion, it was spoiled for those that watched NXT 2.0 beforehand, I wish it wouldn’t have been that way but I’m glad Blair is able to use her position as number one contender to be a part of the Unification match happening at Worlds Collide.
