Staten Island’s princess. Hottest Ring girl. F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S. Untouchable. Money. WWE’s sexiest woman. Wrestling fans typically think of Carmella when they hear these terms. She started as a Patriots and Lakers cheerleader and dancer. In 2013, she signed with WWE and joined NXT with Nia Jax, Alexa Bliss, Blue Pants, Asuka, and the Four Horsewomen.
Due of her surroundings, fans misjudged her. Carmella’s charm and athleticism helped her grow. Despite being drafted as Miss Irrelevant in 2016, she became a champion, reality show star, business owner, and podcast presenter.
Carmella has made a splash in the WWE, so we’re giving her flowers with our Top 5 Carmella Moments.
#5 Carmella’s NXT Debut Segment (NXT TV-Thursday, September 4, 2014)
Charlotte Flair, Emma, Sasha Banks, Bayley, and Alexa Bliss found themselves during NXT’s initial transformation under Triple H. But a new woman would be forced into the forefront. Real 1 and W. Morrisey, previously Enzo Amore and Big Cass, feuded with Sylvester Lefort and Marcus Louis, who shaved Amore’s beard. Amore challenged Lefort and Louis to a hair match at NXT Takeover: Fatal 4-Way.
After winning and shaving Louis’s hair, they revenge against Lefort, and enlisted the help of Carmella, a local stylist for hair removal cream. As Enzo and Cass were playing with the cream, Carmella was told to watch the dog of a client, and as she walked in with the poodle, Enzo got cream on the poodle and its fur was falling off! Carmella was then fired from the beauty shop, and Enzo and Big Cass were responsible for getting her a job with WWE. This was a wild debut for the Fabulous One, but a memorable one, nonetheless.
#4 Carmella vs. Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship (NXT TV-February 10, 2016)
After winning a battle royale to become number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship, Carmella faced Bayley, her best friend in the locker room. Bayley wasn’t the loud and aggressive superstar she is today; she was the beloved hugger who won Match of the Year with Sasha Banks at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.
Carmella and Bayley had a ton of respect for each other going into the match, but eventually that would melt away as they fought for the ultimate prize. Though Bayley has a substantial technical arsenal, Carmella showed what working hard in the performance center will do for you! Mrs. Mella hit two suicide dives and used her ring awareness to rise to the occasion. Though she did not win the NXT Women’s title, Carmella proved to the NXT fans that she could hold her own as a star in the making.
#3 Carmella and Queen Zelina Vega win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship (WWE Raw-November 22, 2021)
During her “Most Beautiful” era, Carmella aligned with the first ever Queens Crown winner and former manager Zelina Vega. They both decided that royalty and beauty go Hand in hand, so they decided to target Rhea Ripley and Nikki A.S.H. for the Women’s Tag Team titles. As they pursued the gold, the resident means girls decided to target Nikki with relentless bullying and beatings in order to break her spirit, but Rhea assured her that she had value as a friend and as a partner.
The Queen watched the contest. Carmella used distraction and trash-talk to draw Nikki’s attention away from Vega, while Zelina took advantage of Ripley’s agility. As the superhero tried to gain some momentum, Zelina hit her Code Red finisher and successfully pinned Nikki to make herself and Carmella the new Women’s Tag Team Champions! The girls celebrated on top of the commentary desk as the audience stared in disbelief. Carmella and Queen Zelina were the top team with the gold!
#2 Carmella’s Historic and Controversial Money in the Bank wins (June 18 and June 27, 2017)
Women have many chances to shine during WWE’s Women’s Evolution. The 2017 Women’s Money in the Bank Match proved that SmackDown’s women could handle a ladder match. Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Tamina Snuka, Natalya, and Carmella fought for Ms. Money in the Bank with their best athletic arsenals and steel ladders. Sadly, the women’s work was eclipsed by chinless flunkies who climbed the ladder and dropped Carmella’s briefcase. Many supporters felt a man shouldn’t have interfered in such a historic moment.
SmackDown Live GM Bryan Danielson (aka Daniel Bryan) stripped Mella of the contract and commissioned a rematch on June 27, 2017, allowing the players time to recover and refocus. Carmella tried to deceive her opponents with cunning methods, but they scouted her every move and knocked her down. Even after being expelled earlier that night, her chinless insurance policy snaked back into the building.
Carmella grabbed the Irish Lass Kicker after Becky Lynch threw him over the ladder, causing her to land awkwardly on her knee. Mella used a steel chair to further harm Becky and ascend the ladder. The Moon Walking, Trash-Talking Princess of Staten Island made history by holding onto the contract for 287 days.
#1 Carmella’s Money in the Bank cash-in to become SmackDown Women’s Champion (Tuesday, April 10, 2018, episode of SmackDown Live)
Following WrestleMania 2018, the women’s division was reorganized. Ronda Rousey, formerly of UFC fame, made a successful WWE debut with Kurt Angle against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Lina Fanene (fka Nia Jax) became the new Raw Women’s champion after dethroning her former best friend, Alexa Bliss. Naomi won the first ever WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal. Charlotte Flair had a classic match against Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship in which she defeated The Empress of Tomorrow.
Flair asked fans about her next challenger on SmackDown following WrestleMania. IInspiration (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce) attacked Charlotte as Carmella arrived with the Money in the Bank bag.
Carmella utilized one of her signature super kicks to pin Flair for the biggest prize in SmackDown’s women’s division. She yelled and cried while lifting the title. Corey Graves called Mella “C-H-A-M-P-I-O-N!” from the commentary booth. She won in front of her wrestling father, Paul Van Dale. It was the end of a superstar’s journey from last to first on SmackDown.
