Thunder Rosa: AEW, Double or Nothing & The Forbidden Door

Thunder Rosa sat down with us at Women’s Wrestling Talk and gave some cool insights into being the AEW Women’s World Champion and more. One of the things she talked about was how it was working with AEW and the differences in other locker rooms she has been in.

“It’s a very diverse locker room. We have very very young women in here. And then we have some of the most experienced women in the business, and I personally love working with Mercedes Martinez. She’s one that brings so much to the table. And anytime I have a question, like personal or professional, she’s always open to help anyone. I think like on Wednesdays a lot of us train with Dustin. We’re really trying to help each other elevate.

When we have issues in the ring, when we have issues with certain stuff, and we brainstorm different things. I enjoy doing that kind of stuff. Also, we are encouraged to bring some of the stuff that are not necessarily like in-ring abilities. Other things that we can bring to enhance the division. So, I’ve been able to do a lot of really cool stuff in the company. With my social work. With everything else. And I don’t know, I like it.”

The Forbidden Door has been a big deal with AEW and for Thunder Rosa, she too had some top choices of who she would love to face if she had an opportunity to do so with the Forbidden Door.

“Yeah. That’s another woman that was an inspiration to me before I became a wrestler. Sarah Stock. She was a coach before and I thought that she was retired, but she’s wrestling back again. So, I’ll love to have a match with her. Faby Apache. I was supposed to wrestle her before, and I was not able to. She’s one of the best in the world. She’s my son’s favorite wrestler. So, I think he would get a heart attack if he sees me wrestling her. Let’s see from the Forbidden door. I don’t know. I think there’s so many I can’t even mention but those are like…that one Sarah Stock will be like my number one probably because she’s just such a great athlete.”

AEW’s Double or Nothing is also coming up. Thunder Rosa spoke about her history with her challenger Serena Debb and what that would mean going into Double or Nothing.

“For me, it is very important that she understands because I feel like in the last, I will say seven months her transition, and her development as the professor of professional wrestling has started, right? I feel that she needs to understand that I’m a different animal right now. In May 2022, that I am not the same person she faced two years ago, during COVID when she took the NWA championship away from me. That I’m not the same person in October 2020. When she faced me again, that was the last time we were in the ring together. That I have become a more confident, a better wrestler, and a better woman.

And I think that, that this match is going to be so intense, because like I said, on Wednesday, I drove to see her back and forth 16 hours just to see her wrestle because that’s what she was doing eight years ago, that’s exactly what I envisioned myself doing in the ring. Being a technical wrestler. Being one of the best in the world. And now it’s a different story. But during Double or Nothing, this match is going to prove a lot of things for a lot of people. And especially, I personally feel like, we have an opportunity to show the world what a real women’s wrestler looks like.”

With a lot of momentum going into Double or Nothing, Thunder Rosa looks to prove why she is the AEW Women’s World Champion and that she will do what is necessary to continue to be on top.
