Mickie James: An Icon

Mickie James is a legend who has made history and broken down doors. Mickie was born on the 31st of August, 1979. She is a mother, a singer, and a wrestler, among other things. Her wrestling career began in a wrestling school in Washington, DC, before she made her debut as “Alexis Laree” as a valet for KYDA Pro wrestling. During this period, Mickie would also go to the ECW dojo and Funking Conservatory, as well as many other wrestling camps, to hone her talents.

Mickie would appear in Ring of Honor and TNA. Though she wasn’t truly prominent in TNA until 2003, this was my first encounter with her, as I recall her rivalry with Amazing Red. In addition, she was the first woman to participate in the Clockwork Orange House of Fun match.

Mickie had to wait two years after making calls and mailing recordings to earn a tryout with WWE. They would send her to OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling), where she would engage in tag team battles and feud with Beth Phoenix and Jillian Hall, among other things. She would start using her true name at the conclusion of her tenure in OVW.

Mickie made her debut on an episode of Raw on October 10, 2005, as Trish Stratus’ greatest fan. This storyline between her and Trish would culminate in one of Trish’s most bitter feuds. I was thrilled to watch both females face off again when they got their opportunity at the Royal Rumble in 2018.

Mickie would go on to capture the women’s championship at WrestleMania 22, beginning her maiden reign as champion. She would win the championship a second time at Survivor Series in 2006, defeating Lita. Mickie would go on to win this championship two more times. After defeating Maryse, she went on to win the Divas Championship in 2009. Mickie became the second woman in history to hold both the Diva’s and Women’s titles. Melina is the first to arrive.

Mickie would next compete in the independent circuit, Global Force Wrestling, TNA many times, WWE, and the NWA. Mickie went on to have incredible bouts and create history. She also made history by being named as a participant in the 2022 Royal Rumble, where she was recognized as the Impact Knockouts World Champion and was allowed to come out to her Impact theme Hardcore Country, a song she performs. She wore the Knockouts Championship around her waist as well.

This hero would also be in charge of establishing and promoting NWA’s Empowerr, a women-only PPV. This PPV was one of the finest of the year in 2021.

Mickie is also one of only four women in WWE history to have won more than six WWE Women’s Championships. Trish, Sasha Banks, and Charlotte Flair are the others.
