The Most Needed Feud In Women’s Wrestling Today

This week on AEW Dynamite, Mercedes Martinez and Thunder Rosa went head to head in a No Disqualification match. It was revealed that AEW Women’s World Champion, Dr. Britt Baker, brought in Martinez to take out her biggest competition. Baker and Rosa will meet on March 6th in Orlando, Florida as the DMD defends her title at AEW Revolution. However, their feud takes a bit of a backseat to the feud that is needed within Mercedes Martinez and Thunder Rosa.

Rosa and Martinez are no stranger to one another in the ring, fighting closely in the indies for years including a recent championship match in Warrior Wrestling. Their feud has exploded in AEW and continues to deliver every time they meet. In my opinion, this feud is important to the growth of the women’s division and holds the power to change the mold. It gives the division more substance and displays growth within the direction of AEW. There is no title on the line and the only prize is to win! We are finally getting a solid story in the women’s division that includes others within the feud. At the end of their match, we see a moment of respect. This moment displays the importance of having consistent feuds within the women’s division. It creates a sense of engagement while allowing everyone in the division an opportunity to be displayed and used in the story.

I had a chance to watch this match live and I am honored to have witnessed their clash in the ring. I am a huge fan of Mercedes Martinez and being my first time watching her wrestle, this match was perfect. Last month, I had a chance to see Thunder Rosa for the first time and spoke briefly after her match at Zicky Dice’s Outlandish Paradise. Check out more from that interview along with our coverage of their match Wednesday on AEW Dynamite.

Lastly, as much heat is given to AEW, this feud makes me feel that the women’s division is moving in the right direction. Other notable examples of that right direction would be the current TBS Champion, Jade Cargill, and Serena Deeb, The Professor of Wrestling. Their placement along with matches and segments are important and our viewership is just as important. That is what builds consistency and lets them know that we want more!
