WrestleMania Women’s Review
WrestleMania is the biggest event of the year for women’s wrestling and wrestling in general. WrestleMania week got off to a big start when The Bella Twins, Molly Holly, and Ethel Johnson were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. From there we saw a new NXT Women’s Champion crowned when Raquel Gonzalez defeated Io Shirai. We also saw the NXT Women’s Champions Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart retain their titles against Candice LeRae and Indie Hartwell. Each night of WrestleMania featured two women’s matches, and we also saw Alexa Bliss play a big role in the first match of night two.
Tag Team Turmoil
This match took place to find out who would challenge the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler on WrestleMania Sunday. As one of the favorite teams, it didn’t make any sense having Naomi & Lana lose first. Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke looked great in their new gear but their big WrestleMania moment was Mandy slipping coming down the ramp because of the rain. It would have been nice to see Billie Kay reunite with Peyton Royce instead of teaming with Carmella. Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan looked good, but in the end Natalya & Tamina got the win after they looked like the favorite on WrestleMania SmackDown.
Sasha Banks vs. Bianca Belair
This match deserved to be the main event of WrestleMania Saturday and it lived up to the hype. Fans were most likely split with who to root for. Both women gave it their all and had a really good match. In the end Bianca fulfilled her dream to win the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship. Sasha is deserving of a rematch and should stay near the top of the women’s rankings.
Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler vs. Natalya & Tamina
After winning the tag team turmoil match on WrestleMania Saturday, the team of Natalya and Tamina got a shot at the WWE Women’s Championships. Nia and Shayna have been undefeated in 2021, and they didn’t stop on this night. Natalya and Tamina were both impressive and have nice pink and blue gear that complements each other. With NXT getting their own women’s titles it’s hard to say who Nia and Shayna will ever lose to. It would have been nice to see The Bella Twins enter the tag team turmoil match and win, even if they didn’t capture the gold. At least we got to see them beat up Bayley.
Asuka vs. Rhea Ripley
In the second to last match at WrestleMania we saw Asuka defend her Raw Women’s Championship against Raw newcomer Rhea Ripley. It was the speed and agility of the long reigning champ Asuka against the size and strength of Ripley. In the end the power of Rhea was too much as she defeated Asuka to become the new champ. We saw new NXT, Raw, and SmackDown women’s champions all in the same week.
